- AC:
Alternating current, 50 Hz or 60 Hz
- Actuation current:
The actuation current I ANZ is the current necessary to move the armature into the stroke position (see also VDE 0580)
- Actuation time:
The actuation time t1 is the sum of the response delay and the stroke time t2 (see diagrams in VDE 0580)
- Actuation voltage:
The actuation voltage uANZ is the voltage necessary to move the armature into the stroke position (see also VDE 0580)
- Adapter:
Device for diverting the valve air connections in order to increase compatibility
- Ambient temperature:
Describes the temperature of the surroundings at which valve operation is permitted under maximum allowable self-heating
- Area of application:
Describes the area in which, and the way in which the valve may be deployed
- Armature:
Metal part moved by magnetization in the armature system
- Armature guide:
Passive component in which the medium is transported
- Armature system:
Active component for controlling the medium; consists of the armature guide, magnet core and armature
B
- Bi-stable:
Unit remains activated until the reset switch is operated (e.g. manual switching 1 = On – 0 = Off)
C
- Casing material:
Material for encasing (shaping) the solenoid coil

Dimensions of the units for determining the space requirement and the block design
- Direct current/voltage:
Current/voltage rectification with a ripple of < 45%
- Duroplast:
Casing material for solenoid coils with high temperature stability
- Duty ratio:
Is the ratio of the power-on time to the total running time

- EMV:
Electromagnetic compatibility, interference immunity against rapid transient disturbances (connection to power lines)
- Exhaust throttle:
By means of the exhaust throttle the flow rate may be adjusted by turning the adjustment screw (on the exhaust side)

- Fastening plate:
Single assembly component for locking and attaching the armature system (flange) in the valve housing
- Flow rate:
Volume per time unit; quantity of the gaseous medium that escapes through a defined opening within a specified time interval
- Frequency:
Number of switching operations / oscillations / time unit
H
- High voltage test:
Test according to VDE 0110-1 to check for compliance with permissible air gaps and creepage distances (arcing, electrical breakdown)
I
- Insulation Class:
Gives the limit temperature of insulation materials according to VDE 0301-1 (DIN IEC 60 085) e.g. Insulation Class "F" = limit temperature of 155°C
- IP:

- LED:
"Light Emitting Diode": active indicator showing that the device is switched on
M
- M12:
Threaded connection with a 12 mm screw thread for the electrical connection of the solenoid coil
- Manual operation:
Manual switching of an otherwise electrically operated solenoid valve
- Medium:
The gas or liquid to be transported
- Monostable:
Switching state during manual operation (e.g. pressed hand operation)
N
- NC:
Normally closed solenoid valve / solenoid operator is closed in the currentless state
- NO:
Normally open solenoid valve / solenoid operator is open in the currentless state
- Nominal flow rate:
See flow rate
- Nominal opening size:
Describes the size of flow opening for the medium at the valve inlet
O
- Operating mode:
vertical, horizontal
- Operating pressure:
Sum of all forces exerted by a gaseous medium on the container wall (armature system / valve system)
- Operating voltage:
Voltage at which the solenoid valve may be brought into operation according to specifications
P
- Power Class:
Gives the power in Watts for DC and in Volt-Amperes for AC necessary to operate a valve according to the nominal opening size / pressure.
- Pressure regulator:
Valve for setting the required pressure (e.g. Inlet 10bar – Outlet adjustable from 3-10bar)
- Protection Class:

- PTB:

- Pulling force:
(Lifting force according to VDE 0580) Magnetic force that acts outwardly under consideration of the associated mass components of the armature

- Seal insert:
Elastomer made of different materials used as the sealing material
- Shut-off valve, pilot-operated:
Shuts off the flow of the medium
- Solenoid coil:
Component that consists of the excitation winding and bundles and directs the magnetic flux.
- Solenoid valve:
A unit which, on account of its construction and the governing technical data, is suitable for actuating valves for liquids and gases
- Steady-state excess temperature:
Difference between the temperature of the solenoid coil and the ambient temperature once temperature equilibrium has been attained in the switched-on state. After 60 minutes as a rule, see VDE 0580
T
- Temperature Class:
Gives the maximum permissible surface temperature in classes above Class II according to EN 50014
- T3 = 200°C
- T4 = 135°C
- T5 = 100°C
- T6 = 85°C
- Temperature:
Given in degrees Centigrade (for ambient temperature, upper and lower limit temperature, self-heating)
- Thermoplast:
Plastic used for moulding plastic parts (recyclable)
- Throttle check valve:
A throttle check valve combines two different functions:
throttling and prevention of return flow- Tightness:
Leakage / time unit; non-desired quanitity of the gaseous medium that escapes in the switched-on or switched-off state of a valve during a time interval

- Valve housing:
The valve housing has a defined pneumatic interface
- Valve seating:
(see nominal opening size) Nozzle in the valve system / valve solenoid that affects the discharge and flow characteristics
- Valve solenoid:
Consists of an armature system, a solenoid coil and possibly fixing material
- Valve system:
Consists of an armature system and valve housing with corresponding pneumatic interfaces
- KR — Concentric O-Rings
- GKR — concentric O-rings with trapped exhaust air
- CNOMO — CNOMO hole pattern
- SF — side-mounted flange
- FL — flange mounting on the underside
- VDE:

- Vent protection unit:
Serves to direct the flow of escaping air after the valve has been switched off
- Voltage:
Gives the value for a device to which the operational and power characteristics are related
- Voltage tolerance:
Gives the permissible voltage deviation value

Describes the number of windings with laquered copper wire on the solenoid coil
